Still waiting to be discovered?
Many talented employees find themselves in this position.
They do their work well, invest effort, and show commitment
And still, the promotion doesn’t come.
Frustration builds.
A sense of unfairness sets in.
These feelings are human and understandable.
But they don’t create progress.
They keep us in a cycle of worry, in a victim mindset:
They don’t see me.
They overlooked me.
They chose someone else.
And that’s where many people get stuck
because they haven’t clearly identified the gap they need to close between where they are right now and where they want to be
Let’s be clear:
It is meaningful and valuable when a manager and an organization recognize our potential and actively support our growth.
But when that doesn’t happen, or doesn’t happen at the pace that works for you.
Waiting is not a strategy.
Leadership begins with taking responsibility for your personal and professional future.
❣️ So don’t wait. Act:
🌟 State your aspirations clearly.
Share with your manager the role you want and why it matters to you beyond the title itself.
The title is a great goal, but when the mangaer understands your “why?” it’s important to you,
it creates a different kind of conversation, a valuable bond.
🌟 Identify the gap.
What stands between where you are and the role you want to grow into today?
This conversation must be specific
to enable focused, actionable steps to discuss with your manager
🌟 Ask directly:
Which skills do I need to develop?
What experiences or responsibilities should I take on?
What can I already do in my current role to move in that direction?
When might the next opportunity for advancement arise?
Timing matters.
It shapes the pace at which the gap can realistically be closed.
❣️ To be realistic, you may not receive clear answers to every question.
But by asking them, you make something clear
to your manager and to the organization:
You are taking ownership of your growth.
Leadership starts with the decision to act.
